On Sunday, June 8, 2025, members and guests once again gathered in a lovely garden in Monrovia to enjoy performances by our guest artist, Cristina Montes Mateo, and this year’s recipients of the chapter’s Valeria Finzi Memorial scholarships.
Cristina’s performance included several pieces by Spanish composers, such as Jesús Guridi and Salvador Brotons, as well as some classics of the harp repertoire such as the Fauré Impromptu. The performance received smiles and applause, and requests for an encore, from the audience.
We also heard from Alfredo Rolando Ortiz about his long friendship with Susann McDonald, and heard some stories about her life and legacy. We had a raffle featuring jewelry from Luz Marina Ortiz of harpjewelry.com and tuning keys from harp technician and board member Gabriel Diaz.
