Louise Trotter (seated) with workshop participants and AHS-LA board members.
On April 21, 2012, the Los Angeles chapter was delighted to present the beloved Texan, harpist and teacher Louise Trotter, in a 4-hour workshop followed by a late-afternoon concert. Both were sold out, with enthusiastic attendees crowding into the lovely home graciously offered by Bonnie Henry. Bonnie Mohr and Carolyn Sykes were kind enough to bring their harps for use during the workshop and concert.
In between the workshop and concert, attendees were treated to an open house at the Pacific Harps showroom courtesy of Carolyn Sykes.
The workshop touched on such topics as:
-
Music sources, shortcuts to arranging, how to read chord symbols & add basic harmony
-
How to use a Fake Book, chord symbols and different bass patterns
-
How to create beautiful and easy arpeggios and glissandos, pedal-lever slides, and other special effects
-
Modern harmony, with minimum accidentals!
-
Adapting music for lever harps---managing or avoiding accidentals
- Playing in different musical styles - Bass patterns and rhythms, ornaments
- Creating your stage personality
The concert, entitled "Harp of Many Colors", saw Louise showcasing her versatility, with Classical, Broadway, pop and Country-Western selections!
Enthusiastic workshop attendees crowd the living room.
