CarrolMcLaughlin

We are saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Carrol McLaughlin, a world-renowned Canadian-born harpist and educator, at the age of 65 following a courageous battle with liver cancer. Dr. McLaughlin lived in Los Angeles for a short time after receiving her Doctorate from the University of Arizona, but shortly returned to Tucson to be first the teaching assistant to Suzann McDonald, and then (in 1982) head of the harp department. She held the degrees of Bachelor of Music from the University of Michigan, Master of Music from the Juillard School, and Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Arizona. She formed the ensemble Harp Fusion at the U. of A., which went on to perform in prestigious venues around the world. She was named a Distinguished Professor by the U. of A. in 2008. Her book Power Performance melded concepts of Neuro Linguistic Programming with what she had learned from performing on concert stages, to help musicians improve their memory and their performances. She leaves behind a daughter, Kelly Cousineau Harris, and hundreds of students who have become successful harpists all over the world.
