American Harp Society - Los Angeles Chapter

-Young harp students (under 18 as of April 7, 2024) may audition for a panel of judges, for an award to support their harp studies.

-One or more applicant(s) will be awarded scholarships.

-Scholarships are awarded according to financial need and musicianship.

-Scholarship awards can vary but are often between $200 and $1,000.

- Application fee is $25. Online payment is preferred, but if paying by check, you may bring a check to the event.

• Applicants and their teachers must be current members of the LA Chapter of the American Harp Society. (Membership year runs from September through August. If you need to join or renew, please go to membership page)
• Applicants must live in the Los Angeles metropolitan area or study regularly with a harp teacher in the area

• Musical Requirements:

  • A Lyon & Healy Style 23 pedal harp will be provided. Students may bring their personal instruments, and must also arrive at 1:00 to tune and warm up
  • Minimum two years of study is strongly recommended
  • Applicants will perform two contrasting pieces of their own choice, combined length of 7 to 10 minutes total
  • Memorization strongly recommended
  • Students are to bring their own published copy of the sheet music to show to the judges. NO PHOTOCOPIES are allowed; use of such copies is grounds for disqualification.

  • Additional requirements:

    • A letter written by the student explaining how they would use the scholarship funds, if granted (Please email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it )
      
    • It is suggested that letters explain any special circumstances of financial need and how scholarship funds would be used if awarded (harp expenses, lessons, special projects, etc.).
