Music Education "Auditions & Evaluations" are wonderful learning opportunities for AHS-LA members.
This is an opportunity for harp students of all ages and all levels (especially beginners and intermediates) to play for an Advisor (guest harp teacher) in a non-competitive setting and to receive an evaluation with advice and encouragement.
The program is offered in conjunction with the national American Harp Society.
Read more about them on the national AHS site.
It offers students of all ages and levels a two-part masterclass experience: Session 1 on March 26, and Session 2 on April 23.
In a masterclass, in addition to playing for a guest Advisor and getting their pointers, you get to observe the works-in-progress of other students and the Advisor's pointers to them!
Students perform two pieces and receive comments and suggestions from a guest Advisor.
One month later, they return to show how they have progressed on their pieces and to obtain new comments.
Students who participate in both sessions receive a certificate from the national American Harp Society.
Participating students and their teachers must be current members of AHS-LA.
Grade-school, teen and adult students are all welcome to participate.
The $25 fee per student participant covers both sessions. Members of the public are welcome to attend and listen (no charge)!
Each date (session 1 and 2) will have two time slots, one from 1-2:30 PM and another from 2:30-4 PM. Students are encouraged to stay during their entire time slots (or you are welcome to stay for both time slots), and hear the other performances and comments from the Advisor, for the true master class experience.
Participants must bring original (store-bought) sheet music of their pieces (no photocopies).
Participants may bring their own harp or use the pedal harp provided.
This event is in the CHAPEL of First Baptist Church, which is located between Holly and Union streets, north of Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena. (Get Google map directions from your location.) There is limited street parking around the church, but validated parking is available in the Holly Street Parking Garage just West of the church.
Enter the chapel through the courtyard with the fountain. The chapel will be open at 12:30. Performers, please arrive promptly and plan to attend the entire session. You’ll have only a few minutes to get accustomed to the harp provided, so be sure to warm up at home before you come. If you are bringing your own harp, you will be responsible for tuning it.
